After mixed results using the major online printing operations, I discovered a small, high-service fine art printer that has taught me how to get the most of my photographs. Here is what I learned
from Art Editions & Gallery in Mobile, Alabama owned and operated by Abbie Turner Wiersma. abbie@arteditionsgallery.
Shoot in raw. Set your camera to RGB color space. Edit to create the largest possible file you can i.e.. 6,000 pixels wide. Interview potential print shops about the equipment they use, the inks the pigments they offer, not all print processes are the same!
At Art Editions , they use an Epson P8000, a press that’s a native resolution of 360dpi–(most others 300dpi)
Epson printers have a 360 native resolution of 360, whereas most other have a resolution of 300 dpi.
I sent my image and hoped for the best. Only one week later, I received my special delivery package and eagerly opened it in front of my family. “Wow” everyone exclaimed, “ The intensity of color in the print made the scene look 3-dimensional. “You must have paid a fortune, the group exclaimed. “ No, It cost under $100 dollars”. I believe this was a great value and I share my story without any monetary connection with this company. The print came with a COA/certificate indicating the paper and inset used for the print. I can’t wait to sign it and frame it!
